This blog started out as a way for family and friends to keep up with our building of our new home and has developed into more of a blog of our home improvements. So this is a blog of the Dowell Family Home Improvements.
We purchased some rubber stair treads a few months back and other supplies with the intent of replacing the wood stair treads and repainting. After repainting the porches we removed the wooden steps only to find the stair stringers were rotting. We ended up having to rebuild both stairs. Apparently my original builder built the stairs directly on the ground smh.
I've done a few other fixes around the house but this is worthy of blogging about.
I finally got around to resetting the main back fence gates after last years hurricane. Not much to the fix other than digging, concrete and straightening up the gates. Fun, Fun, Fun
Chell and I got up had breakfast and started our 2nd day of deck work
I started replacing a few warped boards.
then moved on to sealing the steps, sealing the outside of the deck and then I used a brush to do all the hard spots.
Chell was in the yard taking apart a few of our deck furniture items and staining and sealing them. We almost got done. We only have to put back the rails at some point.
6/19/2018 Chell started pressure washing the deck and all the deck furniture. Chell was hitting it hard from 9am till around 5pm.

Chell had me put together a few old wood pallets and cut an old table and drop in a old sink for her daycare to play with.
After putting in the sink I was told that I also have to adapt the lines so that Chell can attach the water hose and make the sink functional when she wants to. So that will be happening one day soon.
Next we removed the deck rails so that I could pressure wash and treat the outside of the deck without messing up our rails.
After the rails were removed I started pressure washing the back of the house and the outside of the deck.
Next we moved the deck furniture out in the yard and busted out the paint gun and some brushes and stained most of the deck furniture.
Chell continued working on the furniture while I started treating the deck with Thompson's Water Seal.
It got late and we were tired so we still have the steps, the outside of the deck and 3 deck furniture items that need taken care of plus the rails have to be reinstalled. Damn I'm tired already
